What changed
RBI introduced a new 'Branch Info' return to capture branch network data of NBFCs, which was previously not reported. Deposit-taking NBFCs no longer need to include branch details in NBS-1 from September 2013 onwards. The return must be submitted online via the COSMOS portal.
What it means for you
NBFCs must now systematically report branch-level data, enabling RBI to monitor geographical spread and reach. This increases compliance burden but provides RBI with granular data for supervision. Lenders should ensure accurate and timely submission to avoid regulatory issues.
What you must do
- Submit initial Branch Info return within one month for all branches as on June 30, 2013.
- Update branch details quarterly within 10 days of each calendar quarter-end.
- Use the specified format from COSMOS portal or RBI website.
- Ensure deposit-taking NBFCs exclude branch data from NBS-1 from September 2013 onwards.
- Comply with amending notifications to relevant directions.
Who it affects
All deposit-taking NBFCs, Non-deposit taking NBFCs with total assets over ₹50 crore, NBFCs excluding RNBCs
