Quick answerRBI amends UCB deposit rules: bulk deposit rates must be posted on the bank’s website by 10:10 am (with a 10‑minute grace) each business day; all deposit rates must be disclosed in advance on the website. Rates must be uniform across branches and customers for similar deposits. Effective October 1 2026.
The rule, in the simplest words
How it plays out — a real example

Ramesh, the treasurer at a UCB, sets the bulk deposit rate at 7.5% for a 1-year term. On October 1, 2026, he ensures the rate is uploaded to the website by 10:05 am. Later, a corporate customer asks for 7.75% on a similar deposit, but Ramesh politely declines, citing the new uniform rate rule.

What changed

The amendment replaces paragraph 6(3) requiring bulk‑deposit rates to be disclosed on the website at 10:00 am with a 10‑minute grace (latest 10:10 am) each business day, and paragraph 6(2) mandating uniform rates across all branches and customers for deposits of similar amount accepted on the same date.

What it means for you

UCBs must tighten their rate-setting and disclosure processes to ensure timely publication and absolute uniformity. This reduces flexibility in offering preferential rates to specific customers or branches, promoting transparency and fairness. Banks need to update their systems and internal policies to comply before the October 2026 deadline.

What you must do

Who it affects

Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBs), Deposit operations teams, Treasury and asset-liability management (ALM) desks, Branch managers and customer-facing staff
