RBI regulatory returns & reporting — what banks file, mapped
Quick answerBeyond reading circulars, banks and NBFCs spend much of their RBI interaction filing returns — the fortnightly Form A for CRR/SLR, supervisory DSB / risk-based returns, CRILC large-credit reporting, Fraud Monitoring Returns, priority-sector returns, payment-system returns and the Basic Statistical Returns that feed the RBI’s statistics. This index maps the return families the way a banker encounters them and links each to the official rbi.org.in notifications stream that governs it, alongside the BankPulse view that explains the same area in plain English. We link to RBI and reproduce no RBI text; this index itself carries no numbers.
Statutory CRR / SLR returns (Form A, Form VIII)
The fortnightly returns through which banks report cash-reserve and statutory-liquidity maintenance to the RBI under Section 42 of the RBI Act and the Banking Regulation Act.
Supervisory returns (DSB / Risk-Based Supervision)
The off-site supervisory returns that feed the RBI’s risk-based supervision of each bank’s capital, asset quality and liquidity.
Large-credit & default reporting (CRILC)
Reporting of large exposures and incipient stress to the Central Repository of Information on Large Credits, the early-warning backbone for system-wide credit.
Fraud Monitoring Returns (FMR)
How banks report frauds to the RBI - the supervisory feed behind the system-wide fraud statistics.
Priority-sector & financial-inclusion returns
The returns through which banks evidence priority-sector lending achievement against the RBI’s targets.
Payment-system returns
Operational reporting on NEFT, RTGS, IMPS and card/PPI systems that banks and operators submit to the RBI.
Basic Statistical Returns (BSR)
The branch-level statistical returns that populate the RBI’s Database on Indian Economy - deposits and credit by region, sector and population group.
NBFC returns (DNBS)
The Department of Non-Banking Supervision returns through which NBFCs report their financials and prudential position to the RBI.
